Slimming staples and I do not mean Weight loss Surgery
![]() |
| Potato Salad - Syn Free on Slimming World ,Extra Easy made with Quark |
Family are away camping and I opted not to go due to Hay fever and back ache. I watched lots of TV last night whilst having a can of ready mixed gin and Tonic 5.5 syns and a bowl of cherries ( Syn Free)
Most of the programmes were weight loss ones. Super sized vs Super Skinny followed by a Programme about Weight Loss disasters including a Lady who had a Gastric band and since then has seizures. The programme was presented by a presenter who had lost weight with the traditional diet and exercise route.
Well the programme gave me food for though and stopped me picking on things I should not!
Today I have a Barbecue followed by and engaging party. So I am aiming for a syn free day until I get to the engagement Party. It is nice to be invited to a Wedding related party where I am not working as a Toastmaster Master of Ceremonies or Celebrant - a busman's Holiday..
It is not even 9.00am here yet and I have emptied the dishwasher, had breakfast and made a potato salad > I have used quark for the dressing: hence the title slimming staples. I brought the quark some weeks back when I committed to Slimming World. Have not really researched what to do with it. I think it is horrible on its own.. so why did I by it..It is a bit like Ryvita or Cottage cheese. A diet does not have to filled with staples that make you gag or put you off at least. or worst still the ones that stay in the fridge till they can nearly walk out on their own. So I am challenging myself to a more diet staple recipes so beating of beating-my quarkaphobia.. (I could always just not buy it.. But this is more fun for you to read!.
The potato salad was made like this
Potato Salad - Syn Free on Slimming World ,Extra Easy made with Quark
- Maris Piper Potatoes peeled and boiled. and chopped roughly . ( I usually keep the skin on but wanted a certain aesthetic for the summer occasion
- Parsley and mint .. From my Garden - chopped finely
- Artichoke heart - chopped
- One yellow pepper - chopped
- 6 gherkins or pickled dill cucumbers - chopped
- A half a red Onion. Chopped
- Quark
- Salt and black pepper
I don't measure and weight syn free foods just put-them all in a bowl and mix
So back to the topic of today. Yes I have considered a wieghtloss surgery and hope it will not be necessary.. as you can tell I love my food and cooking and would not like the restrictions and would also feel like I had taken a easy option ( which I am aware it really is not)
I would like to hear your comments on my blog, please subscribe and tell me what you think and also what are your staples or disasters.

Slimmer of the week at Slimming world
I was slimmer of the week at Slimming World today!
As this was not my regular group and the one in the evening I did not think I would qualify so this made it even more special.
I lost 3lbs making my loss with slimline world. 6lbs and I lost a stone prior to that. I found it easy to get on track with extra easy loving eating all the fruits and vegetables as free food speed foods. So it was super great to get more speed foods for the prize. How this works is that each member brings a piece of fruit into the group and this is given to the person with the highest loss.
So another week and I should definitely have lost a half a stone.

Fruits and Donuts
I got very excited at the fruit stall in Watford Market. The Rray of fruits is amazing. I was particularly impressed to know that donuts are now free on Slimming World: Donut Peaches that is. These succulent leaves are shaped like a Donut hence the name.
I brought Cherrys, apricots, minneola apples and mangoes in a much larger quality than I would have got from those shrink wrapped polystyrene packed Supermarket fruits.
My love of fruit is quite simply a joy after doing some very low calorie diets and also low carb.. I became a bit fruit phobic as well as constipated. How can these diets work long terms when they do nothing to educate the pallet. I feel like I am becoming normal again after a long time of having so many restrictions on what I ate that I became trapped into a vicious circle of denial , craving and eating.what a relief for my body to let go of these pounds and misconceptions about food.

I am not taking the Scenic Route with weight loss
![]() |
| Slimming World Membership |
She also pointed out that if one takes the scenic route to losing wieght then that is fine with her as she needs the cash to go on holiday.. I am determined not to fund her on a Carribean cruise. maybe a weekend in a Bed and Breakfast instead. In fact I am now keeping a spread sheet of the expenditure on weight loss!
She is a excellent coach as she spoke in a way that captivated my visual mind. Talking of how you should have speed foods to fill up two thirds of your plate. This has helped me a lot. She also told us off in advance about thinking that the Jubilee weekend is a excuse to get off the programme and then not coming back to weigh in as the loss will not be there.. she did this in a humorous way.
I only started 3 days ago and am already showing a tremendous loss without even opening the book..How? well as I have been on every diet under the sun I know the principals of the diet and recall which foods do not need to synned.
I also have been working up a sweat doing house work and gardening. I think this has changed my attitude and mindset. I firmly believe that the overhaul I am doing of my body is also an overhaul of my lifestyle. Getting up and doing things is making me realsie how lttle I did before .. (No wonder the house was a mess and I was so large) Tidying the house properly hardly leaves time to eat. I am bot making the sizeist generalisations that fat = lazy as many of my large friends have a perfectionism around their house and gardens. For me it has been a earning curve as I was not taught how to keep house. It is important for me to tackle this as my daughter cannot be like this. I intend to lead by example. I cannot take all the credit for my work. I employed a cleaner who I observed years ago doing a great job when I worked at a Community Centre. I gave her the remit of clean and teach me as you go. She was the one who pointed out that garden need to be done too. I have taken out some shrubs in my garden.. they were there because they looked ok and were low maintanace. I have trimmed things and got ride of three skip loads. I am also using the blossomy of the Garden as a visual incentive to how I am growing into a healthy person through my weight loss. (i know I sound really hippy..but watch this space!)
I have decided that I have to just get on with things in the house instead of waiting for my husband to do them.. There really is no such thing as man's work.especaillay as he cooks and puts my daughter to bed.
With regards to food I now have routine where I have thought about or cooked dinner for the evening by 11.00 am ( In the summer heat this is helpfull and it also helps with time management for the day) I am still trying to run a business as a Toastmaster and Celebrant and Party Doctor as well as being a mum.
If you want to help me in my weight loss journey please drop me a line with your thoughts and inspiration and also sponsor me as I try to raise money or the MS Society

Lets wiegh in .. with you watching me
I see that Samantha Brick describes herself as a Trophy wife and also states that her husband keeps her weight in check even prescribing how much she is allowed to weigh. although some may say this is controlling.. If it works for them why not. She is obviously healthy for it and in love.
I myself married when I was heavy and am glad that I married a man who was in love with me rather than someone who is a fat fetish. ( or else I may be having to keep my weight up which I am sure would prove easuier that the task of loosing!)
Anyway I am fortunate like Samantha Brick to be married to a Husband who is ten years older than me, calls me his beautiful princess and cannot do enough for me and is proud to be seen with me. All this despite me not looking like a poupette.
However maybe this has been my undoing.. It is hard to look in the mirror and see something that others find unappealing when you are loved and half a good esteem.. It always comes as a shock to me when someone says something about me being fat!.. Anyway I am.
So here is the deal. Why not sponsor me in my weight loss journey so we can step on the scales together. My weigh ins are going to be monthly on the 19th and my posts will hopefully be regular.
Back to Samantha Brick.. It is quite concerning that she says that if poorly that she keeps out of his way as he is not equpied to deal with her unless she is bright and cheery. It makes me think of how difficult it must be for partners of people with MS surely the love does not stop and the relationships can become strained.
The MS Society offer suport to people with MS swhich is important as sometimes the strain on the family can be burdomsome. this is why I would like you to p[op over to the page and sponsor me.

Diets always start tommorow - Here are some reasons to start today
I am not very strong willed and find some things hard to resist. I think I delude myself that I will be OK if I eat a little too much and that diets start tomorrow.
So here are a list of some of the reasons I want to loose weight.
a) To reduce my voluminous bosom
b) Reduce the paranoia that goes with the above and being over weight.. Sometimes people are talking about my earrings or something else
c) To feel more able to look after my daughter and to fit on the swings next to her.
d) To be taken seriously by those sizest people who apparently would not employ a large person because they are lazy
e) So that when I wake up I will not be so surprised that I have!
f) To avoid as much as possible situation of having someone visiting me and not being able to do or say anything through a stroke or heart attack.
g) To kiss goodbye to breast pain
h) To be able to go to the Doctors and not be told my problem is my weight
i) To save myself and the NHS money
j) To feel in controlR
k) To prove that I can.
l) To wear a sexy hot red dress without bumps in the wrong places
m)To have one size of clothing in my Wardrobe
n) So I can jump again.. I have no bounce in my ankles
o) To see my muscles
p) So that I can but some super retro clothing
q) So I do not get mistaken for Rusty Lee, Alison from Big Brother or the latest large black contestant on a reality show.
r) So My suitcase is smaller when I go on holiday
s) So If I ever go back to acting the only roles I get will not only be comedy
t) Never having to risk assess furniture before I sit on it
u) I can wear sports clothes without them looking like leisure clothes
v) S every event in my diary does not become a slimming target
w) Health Farm gowns fit me
x) rated!
y)To be a better Role model to my daughter
zzzz) Seep betterReduce snoring
If you can identiufy with any of these reasons please do leave a comment or sponser me on my journey http://www.justgiving.com/twothingsIwanthttp://www.justgiving.com/twothingsIwant

Left overs
Left overs are traditionally not to be wasted.
If you eat them your clothes will be larger waisted.
With buttons that pop and zips that go ping.
Except for the Elasticated waist or tent like thing
So leave the left overs, bin them, keep them or send them back
If you eat them the weight will go back

10 stone to loose
About me
Hello My name is
Denise and I have 10 stone to loose to get to a healthy weight loss. I have
tried many diets previously and they all work, I just have a large appetitive and
not a lot of motivation. My motivation wanes when I see food... hence the title
and logo... two things I want...cake and a trimmer waist.
I have known many
people who have Ms someone of them friends and some in my family. I am struck
by the way MS can change people’s lives so drastically and on day to day basis.
I have a strong sense of being fortunate that I have lived all adult life as a
large lady without and drastic complications or feeling unattractive. However
as I get older I feel that the weight has to come off as it may be slowing me
down and also reading about the health implications has brought this home o me
even more. I recently had a car accident and it affected my hips. When going to
see the nurse she assumed incorrectly that it was because of my weight. I told
her it was not the case... also realising how lucky I am that the weight had
not caused extra stress on my internal organs or my bones.
I have a young daughter who is a little conscious of my weight
and would like a slimmer more active mummy too.
Please do go along to my just giving page and donate if you
can. Your comments on the blog would
also be most welcome.
